Sandra’s remarkable role in shaping healthcare
When it comes improving community health, Sandra believes everyone has an important role to play.
With family ties to the medical field—her brother a doctor and her sister a nurse—Sandra's career path took a unique turn when she assumed the role of Senior Director of Finance at the Saint John Regional Hospital Foundation.
In this role she had the opportunity to witness the impact of generosity in her community. One particularly touching story she recalled was that of a terminally ill cancer patient who, despite her limited time, approached Sandra not seeking support, but with a heartfelt desire to organize a fundraiser. This patient's selflessness, even in the face of her own challenges, deeply resonated with Sandra, reminding her that even during life's most challenging moments, New Brunswickers are committed to helping and caring for one another.
Another memory that really stuck with Sandra over the years was the hospital’s cardiac program, which is entirely donor funded. “My father had a heart attack when he was 30 years old. I was born when he was 30. I never knew my father in good health and he had so many heart problems and a cardiac rehab program didn’t exist back then,” she explains. It means a lot to Sandra knowing that the care that could have transformed her dad’s life is now available for families in her community, and the Foundation played an important role in making this possible.
Over the years, Sandra played an incredibly important role in fundraisers and advocating for the allocation of funds to important initiatives, like ensuring that doctors and clinical staff can continue their education to advance care for New Brunswick. Now, with a gift in her will, Sandra is ensuring that her commitment to advancing healthcare continues well into the future.
