JANICE FRANKLIN: A LIFELONG CHAMPION OF MENTAL HEALTH SUPPORT

Turning Passion into Action

Janice would never tell you this herself, but she’s an important part of why we’ve seen such an amazing evolution in New Brunswick’s healthcare over the years – particularly around mental health.

When Janice Franklin thinks back on her early days as a nurse in 1954, she’s reminded of just how far healthcare has come. “Back then, they were testing some of the very first anti-depressants in Canada,” she recalls.

“When people have an experience that brings them into the health system, they realize how important it is, and they want to do something. I hope they realize that what seems small isn’t small in the end. Even a drop in the water makes ripples.”

Your generosity makes a difference. A gift in your will ensures the causes you’re passionate about today will benefit in the future.

EILEEN BOYD: A THOUGHTFUL GIFT WITH A LASTING IMPACT

Love Lives On

West Saint John has been home to Eileen Boyd for nearly all of her 87 years. But you could call Saint John Regional Hospital her home away from home.

Eileen began a rewarding career at the Old General Hospital in 1954, moving to the Regional when it opened in 1982. She started as an X-ray technician and worked her way to management positions in oncology before her retirement. “I loved it so much,” she laughs, “that I was NOT happy to reach retirement age!”

But there is more to Eileen’s connection with the Regional than a rewarding career. Eileen is leaving a gift in her will to the Saint John Regional Hospital Foundation out of gratitude for the compassionate care she and her husband received throughout their long personal journey. “As heartbreaking as it was, the teams made us feel like we were never alone.” Local care and kindness delivered only a way that only the Regional could

“The need is going to continue long after I’m gone, and I want to know that as new things emerge, we can bring the latest technology, or equipment, or the best people, here to Saint John.”

—Eileen Boyd, retired staff member and legacy donor

You can join Eileen and other caring New Brunswickers by including the Saint John Regional Hospital Foundation in your will. That’s how we’ll create a healthier future, together.

GLENN & PENNY FOSTER: HOW A GRATEFUL COUPLE IS GIVING BACK

Recognizing Excellence
in our Own Province

Glenn and Penny Foster will never forget Canada Day of 2010. Instead of a quiet long weekend, Glenn underwent a life-saving procedure by Saint John Regional Hospital’s talented surgeons.

With Glenn in agonizing stomach pain, Penny drove to their local emergency department. Glenn needed surgery – fast. He was transported to Saint John Regional Hospital where surgeons removed a large section of his colon.

The couple was so grateful for the kindness of other local donors and value of outstanding healthcare in our province that they wanted to extend their giving to future New Brunswickers.

But, Sandra is living proof that you don’t have to be a doctor, nurse, or frontline staff member to have an incredible impact on your community’s healthcare.

You can join Sandra and other caring New Brunswickers with a commitment to ensuring advancing healthcare continues well into the future by naming Saint John Regional Healthcare Foundation in your will.

SHIRLEY MURPHY: A LEGACY OF LEARNING

Dedicated to Excellence

Shirley Murphy might not consider herself a pioneer, but her trailblazing career as a dietician at Saint John Regional Hospital speaks for itself.

In 1971, Shirley was part of the first graduating class of dieticians to work at the Regional. She quickly found her passion working with diabetes patients. When she retired, Shirley thought about how dieticians had become an integral part of patient care over the course of her career and wanted to support future dieticians like her improve patient care.

What a beautiful way for a lifelong learner to continue her legacy of education at the Regional. If there is an area of healthcare you are passionate about, consider supporting it into the future with a gift in your will.
