Saint John Regional Hospital Foundation and Horizon Celebrate the Grand Opening of the J.T. Clark Family Foundation Ambulatory Clinic
(SAINT JOHN) Thursday, June 20, 2024 – The Saint John Regional Hospital (SJRH) Foundation and Horizon Health Network (Horizon) are thrilled to announce the grand opening of the newly renovated J.T. Clark Family Foundation Ambulatory Clinic.
Launched in 2017, the Give Clinic 1 Expansion Campaign has transformed the hospital’s ambulatory care facility, thanks to the generous support of over 2,700 donors.
This 100% donor funded expansion has doubled the busiest ambulatory clinic in New Brunswick’s size from 7,000 to 14,700 square feet.
Key features of the new clinic include:
Comprehensive Renovation: Designed by Steen Knorr Architecture Incorporated, the clinic now offers enhanced accessibility, privacy, and patient comfort, with a layout conducive to efficient patient flow and future adaptability.
Services: The clinic will provide a wide array of specialized services including: Dermatology, Endocrinology, Neurology, Orthopedics, Plastic Surgery, Urology, Vascular Surgery, and more.
Modern Facilities: The facility now includes eight dedicated team rooms, enhanced access exam rooms, procedure rooms with ante rooms, and uroflowmetry technology in select washrooms.
“The completion of this expansion is a testament to the incredible generosity of our donors and their unwavering dedication to our healthcare community,” said Shannon Hunter, President and CEO of the Saint John Regional Hospital Foundation. “This clinic will serve as a beacon of advanced health care, improving patient access and care, with over 42,000 visits projected this year.”
The fundraising portion of this campaign closed in March 2021, with a remarkable $12 million raised. The J.T. Clark Family Foundation Ambulatory Clinic is set to open its doors to patients on June 24, 2024, following a construction period that began in March 2023.
Despite initial delays due to COVID-19, the project has been completed on schedule, showcasing the resilience and commitment of everyone involved.”
“Having this modern, new space will mean so much to our clinicians and will help ensure a better experience for our patients,” said Margaret Melanson, President and CEO of Horizon. “To know that this was made possible through the generosity of donors reminds our staff that there is a community of support behind them as they care for patients each day.”
This milestone would not have been possible without the profound generosity of our lead donor, the J.T. Clark Family Foundation, and the numerous other major donors and community supporters.
“What was thought to be a simple cold sore on my lower left lip, was later determined to be a Merkel Cell Carcinoma,” said Mr. John T. Clark, lead donor and a grateful patient of the ambulatory clinic.
“This was removed and repaired within 29 days from diagnosis to surgery, prompting our desire to bring the Clinic 1 Campaign to a close, as a way of recognizing and thanking the many professionals and staff who made this remarkable saga possible.”
Horizon and the SJRH Foundation express their deepest gratitude to all who contributed, making this historic achievement a reality.
“This is an addition that will support our efforts to deliver accessible health care for patients,” said Health Minister Bruce Fitch. “This new clinic will not only enhance the health care experience for patients and their families, but for our staff members, too.”
