News & stories, When One Person Acts, a Community Moves: How Generosity Snowballs

December 2025

“We’re keeping Erin’s legacy alive. She’s synonymous with helping women with breast cancer in this region.” — Denise Miller

How Your Generosity Is Like a Snowball

Community fundraisers like Braaaap for Boobs show how one spark of kindness can turn into something powerful.

Denise Miller never set out to become a fundraising force. She simply wanted to honour her friend.

Erin Appleby was just 30 when she died of breast cancer. Determined to preserve Erin’s memory — and support other women facing the same fight — Denise knew she had to do something meaningful.

“I can’t imagine having to say no to a woman who just had breast cancer surgery, and who suddenly needs one of those expensive, specialized bras to help her heal.”

And so, Braaaap for Boobs was born.

What started as a small gathering of a dozen snowmobilers and a simple poker run quickly gained momentum. Each year, it grew — you might even say it snowballed.

Bottle drives. Pub crawls. Auctions. Snowmobile rides outfitted with pink flamingos and feather boas.

Since 2015, Denise and her dedicated volunteer team have raised an incredible $128,251.70 for the Erin Appleby Breast Health Fund.

These gifts make a real difference. The fund helps women pay for prosthetics, medications, and even gas money to get to their treatments — support that eases both emotional and financial burdens during an already difficult time.

“We’re keeping Erin’s legacy alive,” Denise shared. “She’s synonymous with helping women with breast cancer in this region.”

And with the kindness of people like you, that legacy continues to grow.
