Reporting to the President & CEO, the Director of Marketing and Communications will play a pivotal role in shaping and executing our brand and communications strategies and tactics in line with the Foundation’s strategic plan. Working closely with the leadership team, the Director of Communications will be responsible for building the Foundation’s internal and external marketing and communications strategies, utilizing paid, earned, social, and owned channels. The position will be responsible for all activities related to advertising, marketing, board communications, thought leadership, and media relations to drive awareness and understanding of our purpose and the impact of donor generosity.
What you will be doing:
Strategy:
- Develop and execute a comprehensive annual marketing and communication plan that aligns with the Foundation’s overall objectives and strategic goals including corporate, board, and non-fundraising announcements and content.
- In collaboration with the Leadership and Annual Giving Directors, support long and short-term plans that support fundraising campaign goals (annual giving, cause marketing, major gifts, mid-level, legacy, and events).
- Responsible for creating and managing an integrated annual content calendar.
- Manage the Foundation’s external digital, communications, and marketing agency partners.
- Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the effectiveness of strategies.
- Regularly evaluate and report on the success of marketing and communication efforts, adjusting as needed.
- Monitor industry trends, competitor activities, and best practices to refine approaches.
Brand:
- Enhance the Foundation’s brand by maintaining consistency in messaging across all communication channels.
- Develop and enforce brand guidelines to ensure a unified and compelling brand image.
- Oversee graphic design and all hard and soft marketing and communication materials.
- Collaborate with external consultants and partners to expand awareness and growth of the NB Hospital Home Lottery while ensuring brand alignment.
Digital:
- Oversee the Foundation’s presence on social media and digital (website) platforms, ensuring alignment with marketing and communication strategies.
- Lead a team that oversees social media channels for trends and engage with the audience to enhance the Foundation's online reputation.
Corporate:
- Support the development of CEO reports, scorecards, and board/committee meeting materials as required.
- Support board fundraising initiatives and the development of required materials.
- Manage the annual public open-call board of directors’ recruitment campaign.
- Manage annual updates to orientation and training materials for new board members.
- Provide communications support to the President & CEO and board members, including speech writing, briefings, and presentations.
Media Relations:
- Cultivate and maintain relationships with local and regional media outlets, journalists, and influencers.
- Serve as the primary contact for media inquiries, coordinating responses and interviews as necessary.
- Prepare key spokespersons for media engagements, ensuring consistent and effective communication.
Leadership:
- Provide leadership, direction, and management for the communications team, and collaborate with teams across the Foundation, fostering a culture of purpose, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Coach and motivate direct reports to achieve personal and team targets and program objectives.
- Support the Foundation’s human capital and champion Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, Accessibility, and AntiRacism (IDEAA) strategies.
- Allocate resources efficiently, including budgetary considerations, to ensure the communications team has the necessary tools, technology, and training to execute communication strategies effectively.
- Monitor and manage the department's budget, ensuring responsible and strategic use of resources.
- Establish and oversee communications staff workflow processes to ensure timely and effective delivery of communication materials.
- Implement project management tools and methodologies to streamline communication campaigns and projects.
What we want to see from you:
- Bachelor’s degree in communication, marketing, or a related field.
- Minimum 10 years experience in communication management, in the non-profit or healthcare sector considered a strong asset.
- Superior research, writing, and editing skills.
- Strong strategic and analytic thinking and planning abilities.
- Strong leadership and management skills.
- Demonstrated experience in media relations and crisis communication.
- Familiarity with digital communication tools and social media platforms.
- Ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams and stakeholders.
- Knowledge of or experience in the charitable sector is considered an asset.
- Sound and independent judgment; ability to maintain absolute confidentiality and discretion where required.

- Salary of $95,000 to $115,000 per annum for 37.5 hours per week.
